JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK - (UTTARANCHAL)

       Tour Details | Gallery
Located on the foothills of western Himalayas in the districts of Nainital and and Pauri Garhwal in the state of Uttaranchal , The Corbett National Park was India's first national park that was set up in 1936. It spreads across about 600 square km, form 400 to 1200 m above sea level.

The Corbett National Park is an excellent and largely inviolate specimen of the rich sal and mixed woodland that spans outer Himalayas. The topography of the park is varied and interesting with ravines, plateaus, marshy depressions and grasslands. The sparkling river Ramganga is the life source of the park. Because of its rich biogeographic diversity, the park is a natural heaven for flora and fauna of the plains, the sub mountainous region and high altitude areas and that is why Corbett is home of 110 species of trees, 51 species of shrubs, 27 species of climbers, 37 species of grasses and bamboos, over 50 mammals, 580 Birds and 25 reptile species.

The Elephant Safari is the best way to explore the park. Undisturbed by the mechanical roar of a car or jeep, open to the skies, accompanied only by the rhythmic scuff –scuff-scuff of elephant’s feet and the creaks of the wooden howdah. The far off booming of wild elephants calling to each other can make you hanging tight to the wooden pole of the howdah. The ride can be a mix of moments of pure terror interspersed with long period of utter peace
