SOUTHERN SPLENDOR - 15NIGHTS/16DAYS

Starting from Bangalore, now Bengaluru, India’s IT hub, this itinerary takes you through the three southern states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu to take you to the most well known places of the region. Explore the little-visited 12th-century temples at Hassan; inhale the aromas of Mysore, ‘Sandalwood City’; enjoy the toy train from Ooty to Coonoor; watch cantilevered Chinese fishing nets swoop to scoop up a fresh catch of silvery sprats – perfect for supper, grilled at one of the nearby stalls or stroll the streets of Cochin; drift along Kerala’s peaceful backwaters on your private houseboat, absorbing the beauty of Kerala Villages. We leave behind the backwaters of Kerala to and move to Tamilnadu known for its ancient temples; visit Brihadeshwara Temple, a World Heritage Monument in Tanjore, take part at evening prayer ceremony at Meenakshi temple in Madurai and visit the famous Shore temple at Mahaballipuram.

Day 01        Arrive Bangalore
Arrive Bengaluru, where you are greeted with a traditional Indian welcome on arrival at the airport and escorted to the hotel for overnight.

Day 02        Bangalore - Hassan
The morning is free to pursue your interest. Late morning drive to the 11th century city of Hassan.

Day 03        Hassan - Mysore
Check out from the hotel after breakfast and drive to Mysore enroute visit the Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid.

Day 04        Mysore
Spend the day visiting the colouful vegetable and fruit’s markets, the Maharaja’s Palace with its glitering interiors and Chamundi hill.

Day 05        Mysore – Coonoor
Drive to Ooty in the morning. After lunch take a ride on the unique Toy Train upto Coonoor.

Day 06        Ooty – Kochi (Cochin)
A long and beautiful drive to Kochi, previously known as Cochin – ‘the Venice of the east’.

Day 07        Cochin
Time to explore Fort Cochin, the fascinating cantilevered Chinese Fishing nets, Jewish Synagogue, Mattancherry Palace and St Francis Church. Enjoy a Kathakali dance performance in the evening.

Day 08        Cochin - Houseboat
A short drive takes us to the embarking point of our houseboat for the backwater cruise. Sail through the narrow canals, experience the local village life on the backwaters and enjoy the palm fringed waterways.

Day 09        Houseboat - Munnar
Disembark in the morning and drive Munnar, the summer resort of the British in South India. Spend the afternoon to visit the Tea plantations and tea musuem.

Day 10        Munnar – Madurai
Drive to Madurai, one of India’s temple town and an ancient centre of learning. The afternoon is dedicated for the city tour. Return to the Meenakshi temple to witness the daily evening ceremony.

Day 11        Madurai - Tanjore
Leave early to drive to Tanjore with en route stopover at Chettinad, homeland of the Chettiars, a prosperous banking community in the 19th and early 20th century.

Day 12        Tanjore
Explore the city and visit the World heritage site at Brihadeshwara Temple. Afternoon is dedicated to visit the Srirangam Temple and Rock Temple at Trichy.

Day 13        Tanjore - Pondicherry
Morning we drive to Pondicherry en route stop at the temple town of Kumbakonam and Darasuram temple.

Day 14        Pondicherry - Mahaballipuram
In the morning we visit the French quarter of Pondicherry. Later we drive to Mahaballipuram. Rest of the day is at your disposal.

Day 15        Mahaballipuram
A full day excursion to Mahaballipuram and Kanchipuram.

Day 16        Leave Mahaballipuram – Chennai
In time you will be transferred to Chennai airport for your onward flight.
